چکیده

The functioning of a multimodal integration system requires metadata, such as ontologies, that describe media resources and media components. Such metadata are generally application and domain dependent, which causes difficulties when media need to be shared across domains. Thus, there is a need for a mechanism that can relate the key terms and/or media components in data from different sources. In this chapter, we present an approach for mining and automatically discovering mappings in hierarchical media data, meta-data, and ontologies, using the structural information inherent in hierarchical data. This approach is applicable even when the mappings are imperfect, fuzzy and many-to-many. We show that structure based mining of relationships provides high degrees of precision.

AN ADDITIVE MODEL FOR SPATIO-TEMPORAL SMOOTHING OF CANCER MORTALITY RATES

In this paper, a Bayesian hierarchical model is used to anaylze the female breast cancer mortality rates for the State of Missouri from 1969 through 2001. The logit transformations of the mortality rates are assumed to be linear over the time with additive spatial and age effects as intercepts and slopes. Objective priors of the hierarchical model are explored. The Bayesian estimates are quite ...

A Study on Properties of Dempster-Shafer Theory to Probability Theory transformations

In this paper, five conditions that have been proposed by Cobb and Shenoy are studied for nine different mappings from the Dempster-Shafer theory to the probability theory. After comparing these mappings, one of the considerable results indicates that none of the mappings satisfies the condition of invariance with respect to the marginalization process. In more details, the main reason for this...

Identifying and Eliminating Inconsistencies in Mappings across Hierarchical Ontologies

Recent years have seen a rapid proliferation of information sources e.g., on the World-wide Web, in virtually every area of human endeavor. Such autonomous information sources are based on different ontologies, i.e., conceptualizations of the entities, properties, and relationships in the respective domains of discourse. However, practical applications (e.g., building predictive models from dis...

Granularity Transformations in Wayfinding

Wayfinding in road networks is a hierarchical process. It involves a sequence of tasks, starting with route planning, continuing with the extraction of wayfinding instructions, and leading to the actual driving. From one task level to the next, the relevant road network becomes more detailed. How does the wayfinding process change? Building on a previous, informal hierarchical highway navigatio...

Spectral-spatial classification of hyperspectral images by combining hierarchical and marker-based Minimum Spanning Forest algorithms

Many researches have demonstrated that the spatial information can play an important role in the classification of hyperspectral imagery. This study proposes a modified spectral–spatial classification approach for improving the spectral–spatial classification of hyperspectral images. In the proposed method ten spatial/texture features, using mean, standard deviation, contrast, homogeneity, corr...
